I looked at the Legacy B Spec about 3-4 years ago when they first came out, very nice but I wasn't going to pay nearly 40 after taxes for it. If it was in the low 20's I'd reconsider it. Most of the STi drivetrain without the ugly wings and a better interior.

Here's just a glimpse of pricing, not that I recommend this one. I see these prices regularly. It would be tough to find a SpecB, might be better off modding it yourself.

Too ugly, like the Pontiac G8 GT though but would probably never own a GM/Ford product.

Short list is

E46 M3
E39 M5
Mini S (although gf already has one)

Are turbo kits for the S2000 reliable?

EDIT: Why is the C5Z such a piece of shit? The interior isn't the best, but it is ergonomic and reliable and will provided the most bang for your buck... If not the C5Z get an E46M.

G35 6-speed sedan would be an interesting playtoy.

I hear ya. I guess I won't mention an SVT Cobra then

Of those that you mentioned, I'd go M5 for the rarity. Or hunt down an 850ci since I've always wanted one.

That wouldn't even make an interesting daily drive much less interesting play toy. But of course I have a S2000 as a daily driver and an Elise as a toy and 2 of the last 3 cars I own/owned rev to 9000 rpms so I guess my view is a bit skewed. An interesting play toy to me is something like a GT3 or Noble. But I'm not looking for a play toy just an interesting DD.

You said you liked the Cayman S. The closest thing for $20k is a 986 Boxster S.

Any turbo kit on any car can be reliable or unreliable. It all comes down to cooling, and a good tune (with supporting mods).

Also, i think you are pretty safe buying a "kit" like greddy or inlinepro.

back to the question at hand:

1: a Z06 is not a piece. The only think that is junk is the materials in the interior.
2. a GTI is not a kids car. I used to own a VW R32. I love the s2000 but still feel stupid for selling the R. And as far as performance: I have seen some insanely powerful vw's that are daily driven and still clean as hell.
3. G8 GXP: Im not a huge GM fan either... but I am going to pick up one of the GXP models as soon as they come out as another car. Bang For the Buck they are amazing.
They supposedly outhandle the 5-series bmw.

Its basically a better looking better handling more comfortable and faster GTO
