What car would you want as a DD?
I know this question is vague, hard to put into words in the topic title.
What type of car would you like for a DD, say you have a pleasure vehicle like a S2000 or Boxster or Corvette (etc.) and you had a minivan or other type of family car already.
What are the things you want for a DD that would be driving to work or other trips.
Comfort/features?
Gas Mileage?
Price?
FWD/RWD/AWD?
Size?
number of doors?
Or would you rather not have both a DD and a pleasure car and rather pool your money into a sporty / DD such as a M5?

I have two daily drivers.
The S2000 and a Subaru Outback.
both suit my expectations perfeclty.
One is daily driven in the seven decent months, and the Outback does winter duty.
I put driving pleasure first.
then maybe efficiency. (both are getting about 27 per tank)
Performance.
Styling.
Reliability
Resale
Luxury and ride quality come in dead last for me.
I could not do better than the Outback for my needs in the winter and pulling my boat, but the only car I would really prefer over my S2000 is an Elise. I would DD that thing no matter how hard is is on my back.

The 335i is a great daily driver...all of the creature comforts you could want such as Navi, PDC, Bluetooth, etc. and I get a tad over 30 mph on the highway after installation of the Procede. It's quiet, very comfortable and has lots of usable power and handles quite well. Maintenance is paid for 4 years and it doesn't draw alot of attention. I liked my E60 M5 and it did offer more room but gas mileage was horrible and it drew a lot of attention. When you get right down to it the only thing it had over my 335 as a DD was a slightly larger back seat.

My current DD is fine (04 A4 Quattro) but I want more power! So I'd say the "perfect" DD for me would have to have:
AWD - snow
Power
Comfort
4 doors
Right now the RS4 and S4 avant are in the lead, but the 335xi and 535xi are a close 3rd & 4th. RS4 bothers me due to the 19" wheels and no all-weather options for tires. Maybe CKit can help me out on that.

^ i like my M3 for the same reasons.
since we're talking DAILY driver, it's nice to have a back seat as i don't know what EVERYDAY will bring and whether or not i'll need a back seat on any given day....as my kids get older, a back seat is a priority in a DD. and like derryck, my car doesn't draw a lot of attention (dark blue, average person wouldn't know it from any run of the mill 3-series coupe)
i had an S2000 as a DD for 6 years (S/C for 3 of those years)....it was perfectly fine as well, for what my life was back then.

I wanted a 335i (best all-around car ever made, IMO) but needed something that could haul my giant dog, so I got an FX35 (which I really like). I can't see needing much more in a daily driver than the 335i offers (unless you need to haul that giant dog regularly). Maybe the next-gen. X3 will have the bi-turbo six, along with better styling and a nicer interior? Maybe we'll swap the 2 FXs for 2 next-gen. X3s? That'd make a couple nice daily drivers.
