What to do with my money bucket...
Hey guys,
Currently right now my DD is a 1998 Grand Cherokee 5.9L... It has 85k on it..
The waterpump went on me last month, this month the swaybar bushings went bad, and in the next 2 months the in tank fuel pump will need replaced. Along with that, the rear bumper needs painted.
On top of ALL this, the transmissions usually need rebuilt or go out around 100-120k..
Ive been thinking about trading it with about 5k for an RSX with no money left over OR I can put like 3500 into the Jeep to make it standable for the next year until I get out of school..
I have 5k.. I dont know whether to put that WITH the Jeep and trade it, or INTO the Jeep to make it bearable (and alittle fast) for the next year..
What do you guys think?? Can I find a reasonable RSX-S???
thanks,
Dustin

I'd do the rsx sawp in a heartbeat. I love it as a fantastic all around car and your savings on gas alone would make it worth it.
My friend had a 5.9 with a lift kit, I only drove it once and it was entertaining but not as entertaining as an RSX.

Go for the RSX. Putting the $3.5k into the Jeep is like burning cash. You'll never recoup that money, and odds are it may require more before you jettison it.
If your monthly finances allow it, keep $2500 in the bank, and finance the RSX with the Jeep + $2500.

Depends. If you spent the money on the Jeep, and waited till you got out of school, how much more of a car could you afford after that? I'd say save and get something you really want.

Neither! It's pointless to dump the money into the jeep, as you may have many more repair headaches.
Also, don't go broke to move up in car, as if anything goes wrong you won't be sitting pretty either. Trade the jeep plus a couple grand and get something practical and reliable, albeit not very fun, and then when you're out of school you can move up a notch!

If want transportation, switchcars' response is what you should be doing. A civic should be a good choice until you finish school. And the resale value should be good when it is time to upgrade.
Just think of it this way, there is always something better in the future.
Now, if you want 'bling bling' now and still plan to finish school.... good luck, get the RSX and be happy.

I vote for the RSX.
It's not like it's spendy (you are talking about a used one?) So it's a nice practical car that happens to be fun and so you may keep it longer even after you get out of school.
True you can get a beat up Escort for $1K and drive it a few years, but it doesn't seem like the RSX is too over the top. It's not like you are buying a S2000 or something that costs a lot and is not very practical.

Thanks for the responses guys..
I am looking for a used RSX.. not new..
Im bitten by the mod bug, so instantly anything I own has to be customized in some way.
If I get an RSX, its going to be a money pit just the same as the Heep, although Ill be getting better gas mileage while I do it..
I know I SHOULD get a 1995 Civic for 1k that gets 40mpg, but I dont want to hate driving that everyday and start racking miles on the S2k..
If I keep the Jeep, Im going in deep.. forever type of deal. I plan on new heads, shocks, springs, swaybars, maybe cams, wheels/tires and new headers, fuel pump and UD pulleys.. I plan on going in deep enough that when I get out of school Ill want to stroke and supercharge it..
Alot of me wants to call the Heep a loss and "cut my losses"..
