What do you know about the IS300?

I work at a Lexus dealership and a friend of mine was recently looking for one. I asked around (people that were around back then, I started in 2007) and everyone here says it's pretty much bulletproof. I work in parts and rarely sell parts for any. So that's a good thing. If you need any parts prices let me know.

IS300 is an excellent car to buy. Nothing is bulletproof; most may be reliable, but there are some that may not be (due to misuse, etc.). In the end, choose a used car carefully and there's luck involved too. Sometimes you'd get a bad apple and have nothing but headaches.
But it sounds like the IS300 is the perfect car for him.

My wife has driven an IS300 (sport cross) for the last 6 years. The thing is indeed bulletproof -- virtually nothing repaired in that time. It is thirsty; she gets about 21mpg with a mix of highway and city driving. The power may not be huge by modern standards, but that 2JZ that Toyota put in damn everything around then feels great and makes the car not feel slow at all. In fact I prefer it to the V6 Toyota motors (fuel economy aside), just because it's smoother and keeps pulling up to redline.
Nothing but good things to say about it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but more or less it's the exact engine of the turbo Supras, minus the turbos? (probably higher compression different cams as well I'd assume). Anyway I remember years ago a guy posted vids online of his turbo'd IS300 making ~500hp on stock internals.

IS300 is a good choice. If you want a good car for under $10k I'd look into a Protege 5 or a Maxima. The P5 is good looking, handles well, has enough power to be fun and is cheap for what you get. Should be able to find one with 60-80k for under $10k.
I had a Protege 5 and while it handled well for a car in its price range, power is not something it had...
Maybe compared to a base automatic 2001 Civic it is ''peppy'', but compared to anything else, it's pretty dog slow...

a 01 base civic had 115hp so anything feels peppy compared to it
The IS300 IMO is way too "squirrely" when the weather turns, no matter what tires you have. The steering is WAY too light and at highway speeds in the rain, you feel like its going to crash at any moment. besides that, the cars pretty solid. nothing breaks mechanically or electronically on it but the gas mileage is horrible.
