What is it with Florida and illegally imported cars, and do they ever get caught?

A quick scan of South Florida Craigslist pops up several JDM cars that are 2000 or newer.
So what is going on in Florida and do the Feds just crush every Skyline illegally imported in every state but FL? I understand that you can pretty much title and register pretty much anything with 4 wheels there but wow, I would not want to plop down $15k+ and risk having it seized!

They seized and crushed a bunch of Skylines in Cali back in 2009, then there was another huge crackdown in 2011, just last year an importer in SC was charged with illegally importing an R33. Even the Skyline from 2 fast 2 furious was destroyed by the Feds. Even a bunch of the "legal" Motorex imported cars were seized. Any 25 year old imported car HAS to have the bond release paperwork and the EPA clearance paperwork to be legal.

That does not make 'whatever' federally legal, the government can seize your car and crush it.

The answer is that there are a lot of people who either don't know about the laws or just don't care. "It'll never be me!"

I was stalking on the Nissan forums and people looking for/owning S15's seem to have the dont care attitude. That is a lot of money to drop on something that has the risk of being seized!

I was not implying that it made it federally legal, just that everyone seems to get away with it.
