Default What if...

What if Toyota, Honda, BMW, or even Porsche bought out Ford, GM, or Chrysler? Do you think it would be possible? If it does ever happen I can see Toyota doing it and maybe Porsche (They seem to be buying a lot lately). Or Mazda buying part of Ford.

I don't really think it will happen.

Good point. I forgot about that.

That's kind of different though. I mean what if Toyota actually bought GM or at least part of it? Kind of like Ford and Mazda. I don't think anything like that has happened to GM before. It would actually be kind of funny.

Or GM fans would rather have that happen.

I wouldn't think Honda would want the "baggage" that came with anyone of the Troubled Trio

.......they already have enough on their plate with their own 3 ugly ducklings

Yah, i don't really see it happening. I mean what would Honda/Toyota (realistically the only two potential buyers) stand to gain? They've already got a manufacturing base here that beats out the big 3s, already have dealer networks, etc. I think they'd just expand and occupy the market share previously filled by the big 3.

Tata might be more likely to be interested.

How is that different and what would be funny about it? Please explain.

Chrysler has historically been the least financially solvent of the Big 3, and has faced bankruptcy many times. As ford Mazda buying Ford, I doubt it. Ford owns less of Mazda than people think. GM would probably just as soon go away as let anyone take them over. If GM went under, I could see Indian or Chinese companies picking up marques like Buick and Pontiac, and continuing them by building those names overseas while selling a few units a year here in the States. At this point, GM would basically have to reduce down to Chevy and Caddy to stay in the game, and maybe even then cut a couple Chevy models. It would be a heck of a lot more efficient though, I would think, and much more financially agile.
