The Chinese or Tata are the most likely suitors in this hypothetical. Buying one of the troubled "Big Three" is the quickest and easiest way to start up a car operation in America. If Tata or Chery had to start up there own dealer network and build mass market cars for the real world from scratch it would be more expensive than buying a Detroit player.

The Chinese would throw them out, and there would be no legal recourse against a company based in a communist country. Partly why the unions are lobbying so hard for the bailout. A small piece of what used to be a big pie is worth more than no pie at all.

Well Mr. Bean, Mercedes did buy Chrysler and then dumped it.
During these hard times, no automakers in their right minds (i.e. Toyota, Honda, Porsche, etc.) would be foolish enough to assume all the debts and headaches from the Detroit 3. Heck, even during normal times, I doubt they would touch those 3 anyway. Their stock holders would protest against it.

Welcome to a Capitalised country, where if you don't know how to do business you go out of business.
Now they want everyone to bail them out so they can continue poor business practice and still make executive salary

How is that different and what would be funny about it? Please explain.
It would be funny only because all the fans of American cars couldn't really make fun of "ricers" because the companies they like are owned by Japanese companies.
I never said it was going to happen. I also highly doubt it will happen I was just wondering what you guys think would happen if it actually did.

i don't think companies like Honda, Toyota, etc are going to jump in and buy anything. if they did, it would be parts/divisions of the companies, not the whole company. i think what will and should happen is the Big 3 trim the fat. for example, Mazda breaks away from Ford complete on their own, Mercury is trashed and Ford is left with just Lincoln and Ford. or Chrysler brand dissolves and the parent company just runs Dodge and Jeep.
