Default What makes a "true" sports car.

I read in another recent thread that the S2K is considered to be a "true" sports car, whereas other sporty cars are not "true" sports cars (the non-true in the thread were the STi/EVO). I'm just curious what defines the S2K to be a "true" sports car. Don't get me wrong though, I feel my S2K is every bit a "true" sports car and I love everything about it, but just want to hear others' take on what makes it "true".

Just did a quick search and this is what a sport car needed to be.

To many people I think the definition of a "true sports car" is a reasonably lightweight, rear-wheel drive, two door car that puts the performance driving experience above comfort and all other factors. A big four door sedan like the evo/sti just doesn't give the pure driving experience that a compact drop-top like the s2k does. That being said, it's all up to each individuals interpretation of what a true sports car is.

In my opinion, it needs to be RWD (or AWD in some cases...) 2 doors, and sub 3000 pounds.

Heavier and with more doors starts to be more of a variaton/subcategory of the typical/"true" sporst car, such as a a "sports sedan" or "sports luxury" car.

EVOs and STIs are on the fringe of being "sports sedans"... could go either way though.

Again, thats just my opinion though.

Sports cars are generally purpose-built to be sports cars, not made from "other stuff", like sporty sedans (STI, M3, etc)

Only pure-bred sports car deserves my interest (s2k, boxter, miata...)

If you can legally put a baby seat in it, it's not a sports car

My definition and the one I hear most from others:

2 doors
2 seats
RWD
convertible
lightweight (this one is a bit ambiguous though)

Otherwise it's just a "sporty" car. Emphasis on the "-y". I could see people bending on the drop top, but all the rest have to be there or it's just not a sports car.
