why is the 911 regarded so highly
i simply dont understand. the car doesnt feel balanced, you always have to fight with the weight in the back, it is powerful, but it doesn't feel well balanced/designed like the midengined boxster or cayman. is it just a heritage respect thing that people put it up on a pedestal?

They are very well balanced and fast at the track. I would love to have one but have two kids to get through college. For the money the S2000 is hard to beat.

996TT is AWD but biased towards the rear and every 911 I have ever driven is extremely well balanced. They are phenomenal cars and excel at just about every measurable performance category. You lost all credibility with me when you implied the Boxster is a better car than the 911.
The reason the 911 is so highly regarded is because it is a great car.

so sad that marketing gets to so many people. in every test, the mid engined cayman shows potential to out do the 911 if it were given more power. the carerra gt is mid engined. in any case, i was looking for a specific and constructive answer, not rhetoric like its good cuz its good. the boxster is more fun because it has less polar interia, turns in better, feels lighter and nimble.

Cayman and Boxster are also great and I think they are put down b/c they are looked at by some as 'cheap' porsche cars.
IMO the 911 can be a little too GT-car for me, i'd probably lean towards the GT3 (especially the 997 GT3) for the pure essence of the 911 without all the un-needed extras.
