Saw all the new civics at the NYIAS as well. Was hoping to like the TypeR more in the flesh than I did in photos.. sadly I didn't.. the new Si sedan IMO is absolutely hideous.. uglier than the TypeR.. the coupe on the other hand is hands down the best looking of the 3.

Somewhere on some Civic forum there has to be a picture of a current gen Civic next to sixth or seventh generation version showing the current to look like a 4x4 SUV in comparison. The Civic is literally the new Accord in terms of size.
It's odd, though, how the Civic LX Hatchback 6MT (the lightest of the hatch versions) is 2822 lbs, essentially identical to an AP1 S2000, despite being a foot longer. And it's only an inch or two wider.

No clue how heavy the new Si and CTR will be, of course. (The heaviest hatch is 3010 lbs.)

See post #47. The Si Sedan is 2906 lbs so the Si Coupe should be a few pounds lighter.

Maybe, because the coupe is shorter and has 2 doors. But while the sedan uses high strength steel as part of its construction, the coupe does not, so the weight difference won't be as much as expected. Source of this info was an interview with the Civic development leader at autoline.tv (autoline after hours) months ago when the coupe was introduced. It had to do with cost because they expected the coupe to be low volume, and they spent money on other areas.

Here: AAH #319 – CCC: Creating the Civic Coupe – Autoline After Hours (around 12:45 mark). It's a really interesting interview actually.

I said the coupe would be a few pounds lighter. I'm not sure how it could be fail to have a weight difference "as much as expected". You expect the coupe to only weigh a few ounces less as opposed to a few pounds?

Current sedan (EX-T) weighs 1326 kg. Current coupe (EX-T) weighs 1313 kg. That's a difference of 13 kg (about 30 lbs). I'd expect that difference to be maintained on the Si...

Sure, if all you want is more power. It's not like Honda couldn't do that in the first place.

Same thing with all your tuners for the VW Golf. You can pay the dealership to make what - 15-30 hp more? - or you can go aftermarket and make 70-100 hp via tuning. Problem is, there went your warranty...

Sure, but Honda probably could have included a similar tune that would have had limited impact on their warranty expense if any at all.

I'm sure they'd love your engineering analysis to back that up....

Well conversely, what do you have to suggest the engine is maxed out?
