Default Why is there no Honda V-8?

So if Honda put it's might behind making a V-8, imagine how kick ass it would be. But they haven't (short of racing V-8's). So what am I missing, Honda has a racing heritage and uses V-8's racing, yet chooses not to use that in the commercial segment.

Something tells me that a Honda V-8 would take a "hemi" and just blow it away....Come on Honda, whats the deal?

And if I may continue my rant ......

What Honda should do is create a kick ass v-8, and implement it across several platforms such as MDX/Pilot, RL, New truck...... Then take that same V-8 and put a hopped up version in a NSX replacement to represent the brand and the engine. Perhaps make a V-8/hybrid NSX or something along those lines and drop that technology into other models.

The whole idea is to represent the brand with the best you can, and then sell lower down based on that image. Honda, that image is going away as we speak.....

After all is said and done, step outside, stand proud, and give all the other manf's the finger....

As noted in a recent Car and Driver test of the S2000, Honda also has a strange proclivity towards using narrow wheels. C&D's explanation for the narrow wheels, if true, would apply even more so towards their avoidance of V-8s -- their engineering philosophy emphasizes light weight.

That's why there is always Toyota and Nissan if you want a V8 from a good japanese company.

You don't need lots of rubber when you have low horsepower.

Honda's lack of a V8 platform is a big barrier to growth. Honda's design philosophy of small, high efficiency engines is losing competitive advantage. Advanced engine management technologies like variable displacement reduce the efficiency penalty of a V8. Honda excels in market segments where a V6 is is the top engine, like Accord (mid-size sedan) or Odyssey (minivan). But they will never be on top in luxury, top-tier sports car, or full-size truck/SUV unless they have a V8 (think Legend vs LS400 or T100 vs F150). The competition does and keeps making them better.

You know maybe in Japan or Europe no V8 may be fine, but Honda is a BIG american car maker. We are the biggest market by far.

It can't be that hard hard, Yamaha supplies a small V8 to Volvo for the XC90 and will probably be used in other Volvo cars and who knows maybe in the Ford Five Hundred.

Honda should be able to do it with no problem. But for some reason they don't seem to want to.

Here in America we have cheap gas and a lot of people want V8s especially in pick-ups suvs and premium sedans.

The other automakers know they would never be able to stop Honda if they made a V8 so they are paying Honda not to make one!
