Winter/Daily car choices
Well, with me living in northern Virginia (from FL), I don't want my S2K to see snow and salt roads, so I've been thinking about what cars can be my daily "beater" (but not a turd). My AP1 has 85K on it, and is boosted with a Stage 1 SOS kit. Still on the original clutch.
My budget is $15-20K. RWD would be nice, but FWD is not a show-stopper. Some things come to mind.
330i (E90) sedan (2006 only). 335i's are still a little much and I don't think having a combination of BMW, boost, and no warranty is something I want to play with. Plus, 254HP is more than adequate IMO.
G35 sedan.
Accord V6 6MT (rare or impossible to find in sedan form)
Mazdaspeed3
The Speed3 is probalby tops right now, followed by a 330. I do like the look of the 2010+ Speed3 more, and I would even consider getting one brand new.
The S wouldn't be going away, but it would be a good-weather car, probably driven to work ~1.5 times/week. A bigger radiator, bigger aftercooler exchanger, an oil cooler, and good brakes are highly likely to prepare it for tracking.

If it snows stay at home.
We don't need anymore NoVA drivers with bald tires and rwd that don't have any snow driving experience.
Everytime there is a storm in this area the roads are clogged with BMW owners that slide everywhere or sit in one place with the gas pedal floored. The owners always seem dumbfounded that their awesome BMW isn't invincible in snow.

you want a winter car and your budget is 15-20 grand???? sounds like you want a new daily driver not just a winter car.....
if a "winter" car is your thing,...you can pick up tons of nice stuff under 5k. A nice late 90s suabru 2.5rs would be my pick,...but keep the fact that front wheel drive is just as decent in snow as with good tires as any all wheel drive vehicle.
