Winter Tires on a Sports Car?
 

How many mount winter tires or winter wheels on their sporty cars? Just swapped to the winter wheels on the Rapide. Same size wheel and design, but with Blizzak's. Bridgestone has been an OEM tire on Aston for a while.

I do it!

I did it all the time in Alberta, even in serious snow. I drove it through the winter for two years, then started storing it in the garage (once we bought our own place) and drove my 4x4 instead (I didn't have the 4x4 for the first two years). Even then, I'd store it with winter tires on it in case I needed to move it around in the winter (and to keep my summer-only tires warm, in my basement).


Now that I'm in the Vancouver area, we get very little snow so I can run a sportscar all year round with minimal issues. I'd still put winter tires on it, mainly because summers are generally pretty bad in the rain and colder temps. I buy a car to drive - winter tires mean I can safely use it year round.

I have a second set of OEM wheels with Pirelli Sotto Zero 3 tires for the NSX.

Just changed over last week.

These cars love cold winter air.

On both of our DD's, Honda and Porsche. Works fine, of course snow-depth limited. Now, of course, as I'm retired, I don't need to commute in the snow, and my wife's office closes readily in bad weather -- so we're never out in the deep stuff. Biggest complaints are (a) 8 more wheels and tire to store in the garage, and (b) handling the large and heavy wheel/tire combos when it's time to change over. Just over a dozen years ago both of us were driving on 195/50-15's, much more manageable.

If I lived somewhere that had weather, yes.


My dream "automotive" vacation - definitely would do this over a nurburgring trip - it also seems like significantly more than a 'ring trip too.

My sporty car is awd and I bought it specifically so it can be driving, in anger, during all 4 seasons. I mount winter tires in Nov. and switch back to sticky ultra high performance summers in April. Our winters here are so variable in terms of temps, inclement weather, etc, that snow tires aren't good for our winters here so we use UHP all seasons. Temps go up and down at a very variable rate, and we mostly deal with flood like conditions. Ice and snow are an every other year type deal and when we do get it, it's a week or less per winter. Mostly cold temps and lots of heavy rain.
