Default would you buy a $84k car for $50k with a "R" title?

Some knucklehead in our local paper has 2 different Jaguar's listed

2002,VDP(?) V8 turbo, 8k miles, new over $80k, sacrifice $39,500.... - R title
2002, XKR Convertible, 8k miles, Nav, New over $84k Will sell for $49,500 FIRM. - R title

He has had both of these in the newspaper for at least 3-4 months now....

Who the hell would pay $50k for a car that either drives sideways from the wreck, or will corrode to nothing from the water damage?

in America "R" title means it was a "total loss" by the insurance company.... that could mean stolen, water damaged or wrecked....... i was just guessing that they were either wrecked or water damaged.

Either way I don't think I would ever want a R title car to drive on the streets unless it was extremely cheap....

That's new M3 range...(not that this Jaguar buyer would really be considering the BMW, but I do!!!)

Isn't the VDP slightly longer than the regular XJ or am I confusing it with another model???

edit: Longer rear window from what I remember.
