Default WTF GM? Are you insane?

A work buddy and I decided to visit a local Ft. Lauderdale, FL Chevy dealer to check out a new Camaro SS in person. (He's a Camaro guy...)

They had a yellow 2SS on the showroom floor. Optioned to $39K+ and carrying a $5000 up charge. Automatic... :-( I guess I like it in person, but some of the skirts in the $2300 "ground effects" package were poorly attached and the paint work was a little sketchy. Too bad they closed off the hood scoop, dropped the reverse lights into the middle of the rear bumper (????) and used some really foul smelling leather on the interior. Beyond that, nice car, but not worth the $45K they are asking.

Much more alarming, however, were a few Corvettes parked outside. I checked out a silver 2009 Z06 and noticed the total sticker price was $107,800. I had to do a double-take to make sure it wasn't a ZR-1... It was carrying a $25,000 dealer mark-up. For a Z06.

$25,000. Really?!?! Are these guys enjoying their jam-packed parking lots?

Good luck, GM... or good riddance.

That's the dealers fault, not GM.

Some of those guys should take a basic economics class.

They're not going to save their dealership by reeling in one sucker to make up for all the depreciating trucks on the lot.

I've seen Honda dealers try to pull equally stupid stuff.

Again, dealer not GM.
Another nail in the coffin is definitely the dealers. When I had my company car in for service, all the service departments in my area were absolutely horrendous (admittedly the honda dealers were hit or miss too, but still). I told them to fix the e brake, they said it works fine, so I said have it your way, brought it back in for a bad tranny (I live on a hill so it's parked inclined, and with a bad ebrake shifting into park is always a crunching experience, multiply that by 60K+ miles of driving), replaced and it ran worst than it did before.
The cars are sound but the dealers really do frustrate potential customers. Particularly in these tough times, they need to realize that inventory is what kills their business, not getting 20% more per car when they actually sell one. Don't get me wrong, the Honda dealers around here does the same thing, but the Chevy/Pontiac dealers around here are consistently bad.
