Given the asymetric information that came out of the Govt yesterday with increased target of a reduction in greenhouse gases.
Ironically, given what is happening to depreciating "gas guzzlers" this kind of tax appears to be playing into the petrolheads hands.

He wants the oil companies to take a cut in revenue but won't lead by example....
Maybe the oik companies should say "look, for every 1p GB knocks off the fuel duty, we'll knock of 2p of our cost". GB knocks 10p off fuel duty, oik companies knock of 20p, consumer gets fuel at 30p less a litre. THAT's working in the interest of the consumer!

What about diesel, the price is still sky high.
I read yesterday oil is about $70 a barrel, in June 2007 it was also $70 but petrol was about 3p cheaper at around 96.9 and diesel was around 98.9 so why is diesel still 108.9, it should be about 101.9p

Now let's see.
GB has a Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge hole in the books. He had one anyway (at the top of the economic cycle) and has had to spunk squillions averting a systemic collapse.
He's gonna need a lot more tax to plug it up.
Now why would lower squirt base cost be useful to him (prices have already fallen) I wonder?
