Can you get a half decent CTR for £4.5k

Looking at cars for her indoors last night and she announced that she would like an old shape Civic Type-R.

Didn't really have much time to browse and have not done any research yet but thought I'd ask you clever lot for your opinions.

Will £4.5k buy me anything worth having or would I just end up with a pile of broken parts for that money?

I don't mind tinkering and am proficient with spanners but I don't want to be spending every waking moment fixing things when I could be spending time tinkering with the S2000.

Looking on autotrader, there are quite a few for under £4.5k - in fact over 70 cars. Obviously some will be dogs, but you may get something reasonable. Hondas are usually well screwed together, so may not be such an issue - just need to look around and check a few out.

EPS tends to go on early <2002 cars, but apart from that, they are pretty hard wearing items.

Only problem you'll have is that a lot of them will have been driven/abused by fools.

Otherwise, I see a good value, practical, fun car

Very lucky to get a 'classic' that cheap. Though being Japanese, it ought to be mint.

Likely an appreciating asset soon.

Turns out you can get a mint unabused 05 facelift model for £6k. :D

By golly it's an absolute HOOT!!

Come on then lets have some pictures and more info.

Will be in the market for one at about this price in spring for the other half.

Was dark when we got home and now I'm full of man-flu. If I can drag myself outside tomorrow I'll take some pics and bung them up.

It's so easy to drive, either just popping to the shops or for a blat and it's quite nippy.

Just need to remove the rear window tints as that's the only non-standard thing about it.

"In 2005 Honda introduced the Premier edition which had Recaro Trendline seats (similar to those found in the Anniversary Edition, only in red and black rather than all red), a darker shade of fabric on the rear seat centre sections, a Momo Steering Wheel, Red Carpet, "Type R" embossed into the front brake calipers and privacy glass on the rear windows. These were available in Milano Red, Nighthawk Black, Cosmic Grey and Satin Silver."

Yeah, I've seen one of those.

This is far too dark though. Almost black.

I'm guessing it's not legal tint and it looks chavvy IMO.

There is no legal limit to the tint levels of windows aft of the B Pillar ;)
