Car dilemma - Sell the CTR and buy what?
We have an 05 plate EP3 CTR with around 50k miles on it. Totally standard and good condition. I think it'd probably go for just over £5k.
I drive my S2000, my missus drives her Mk1 1.6 MX5 as daily drivers.
The CTR plugs the gaps when we (and the 2 kids) go anywhere by car as a family (Which is rarely. Probably less than 3k miles a year).
So the question is, given how much we use it do we;
1: Keep it as it's a laugh on the very rare occasions we do drive it.
2: Flog it, no point having it sitting around costing money in tax and insurance and figure out other transport options for the rare family trips (Hire car perhaps).
3: Flog it and get a 4 seat runaround (Focus/Golf diesel etc). No point having £5k's worth of hardly used car sat around when we could cope with a £2-£3k adequate 4 seater to take up drive space
4: Go mad. If you're gonna have £5k worth of something sat around, what else could you do with £5k and 4 seats (mpg, comfort and running costs irrelevant at this point)? What else off the wall is available?
Your opinions please.

Keep it - it will cost you more to change and at least you know the history of it?

I think 3 is the most illogical one - why replace a reliable old Honda you enjoy with some PoS Fraud or StrengththroughJoy to save £2.99 and bore yourselves shitless?
3,000 miles in a hire car is gonna cost you. A lot.
There's definitely a dissonance here; you could either save money, or spend far more on a monstrous M-B V12 coupe. Fun whilst (some of) the gadgets still work, but schockingly expensive when it stops working. A crappy old Honda hot hatch probably exceeds all of your objectives of minimal cost, mex practicslity & max fun.
I know ours does, although it would make sense to replace it with something newerer at the same time it makes no sense whatsoever unless we can find a car that's really better. And most moderns are of inferior design.

If you need a family car then you need one. Sell the dorris 1.1 if anything, this can be her DD, keep the cash from that sale for wheel refurbs.

At £5k the civic is worth hanging onto, the money you save(calculated weekly) on say a 1.25 Foosty isn't worth the loss of fun you'll get from the ep3.
