Default Crash Helmets

Is there any difference between car/track and bike helmets? I want to get one for my friend as a small "thanks" for the loan of his GTR this year. I am tempted to get a full face helmet as we often get the opportunity to have a ride in an Atom.

What about this one, for example?

It's been a while since I was looking for helmets but I always looked for the gold sticker. See link below:

Hi G

Bike and car helmets have 2 fundamental differences:

Shape and impact

Shape - bike helmets are usually designed to be worn with the neck of the wearer tilted back so they are higher cut at the rear whereas car helmets are designed to be won more with the neck in a normally seated vertical position so the shape of the helmet tailors down more. Additionally the visor section is wider in a bike one as the angles are again important.

Impact-

A bike helmet is designed to take one big impact and thne a large number of scuff impacts due to being thrown off a bike, hitting the floor and then dragging along it.

A car one is designed to be bounced off the inside fo a roll cage and therefore takes multiple high impacts very close together.

May as well get one that's fire retardant, as this will cover any future changes to the rules by TDO's - just in case.

And of course you can use it on sprints and hillclimbs and most other club comps if required.

In that price range, and with the above in mind I would buy:

Aslo on eBay now I believe.

I don't know about sprints/hillclimbs, but club circuit racing (as far as I know) is covered by the MSA Blue Book and would need the appropriate standards helmet which isn't cheap.

Thanks for all the input. It's really only for Knockhill, private sessions which usually last an evening, four or five times a year. We can obviously borrow one from the track owners, but I'd like to give the guy something for his generosity this year. And it would need to be black. To match his 3 supercars.

They're cheap but have Smell2005 and fire retardence, something he'll hopefully never need but it's reassuring to have.
Although Snell2005 won't be valid for much longer for racing, I can't see any TDO demanding MSA standard helmets in the near future.

Am picking a Hedtec up on Monday when I'm with MSE at Keevil (subject to having the Westy ready).
