I had a DPF warning light when I bought the car. £380 fitted for a replacement but the garage recommended some additive and a damned good thrashing.

I wasn't sure how a greasy mechanic spanking me would help but I made my escape at a rate of knots and all seems to be ok.

Having cleared the codes 2000 miles back so far the problem hasn't returned.

I'm not convinced it won't though. Research seems to back up the idea that they do get terminally blocked from 80K miles on.

If it does come back I may try soaking the bugger in some nasty solvents for a day or two and see if that works before shelling out on a new filter.

My mums vectra blocked it's cat like that. They need a good beating, rather than just plodding around at 0-30mph. We blew it out with a high pressure compressor

the guff I'm sure had some warranty exemption for this..

I think the propaganda has worked so I'll no doubt be repeating the process of fixing something up but this time petrol.

The diesel funds can go into my irresponsible, dolphin killing, outrage causing fund.

Something that does <10mpg and frightens children ( but not Savile's Range Rover) should do it.

My DD6 seems to induce foaming mouth syndrome even though it does less than 1000 miles a year whilst the foamers do twenty times that much in their lease car and fly all over the world visiting dispersed sprogs.

Something American would be good as it would facilitate capitalist war monger hatred alongside 'environmentalism'.

I'm curious, but are the government planning to backdate this 'tax' to diesel cars? Does this then mean I get a rebate on my 350Z VED to not being £515/year since it is a clean petrol engine?

Should just invest heavily in E85. Lower emissions than both Diesel and Petrol, hideously cheaper than them too, plus more added HPs for the enthusiasts. Everyones a winner!

Every time a car using e85 drives past it smells just like your local bakery

They should've just made the tax on diesel cars higher than petrol cars and the diesel cheaper at the pump = only people doing more than say 15k a year will buy diesels and it stops the short distance diesel never warming up problem we've got now.

But that would've involved a bit of clever long term thinking and that's too much to ask

...or maybe they ought to learn their lesson & stop these foolhardy dalliances with social engineering altogether.

The people are speaking it seems. What was missing was a petrol car which could get decent mpg without driving like a turd. That now exists and makes the extra effort for diesel redundant. Which is good.

As an example LG's little pug demonstrates what is possible, 40+mpg from a hot hatch

if eveyone drives about in little turbo cars (and keeps em running) then the impact of the minority driving 6s, 8s, 12s or madly fettled 4s is really irrelevant. Most of my mates dont know a Honda from a Zephyr so they can stick to white goods but without the carcinogens thanks
