Nope, my gear knob doesn't light up!
Did notice that it has really cool white lights under the door handles though... must be incase you are too drunk to find the door handle

The S and M3 are designed for people that like to drive. The RS4 is for people that like to get to their destination quickly. I'm trying to think of other examples, but the ones I can think of I haven't actually driven so I can't really comment. But I'd guess the SLK is in the RS4 camp.

Great choice of car,
no doubt the guys on mTorque will have you buying lots of bits from various places.
i've put lighter wheels (bbs versions of the CSL alloys)
Hayward and Scott exhaust,
AP Big brake conversion
bilstein adjustable suspension
Schnitzer short shift kit
remap and delimit
tv on the move (although i never use it except at S2000 track days!)
ipod adaptor.
the car feels just about perfect now!
