For the 2-litre it's just a software update. the 1.6-litre needs a "flow-straightener" device inserted in the air inlet as well. I think that the 1.6-litre engines were initially supposed to have replacement injectors, but I'm not sure that this is still the case.

2-litre cars have been called in first for the update, because they're more straightforward. My brother-in-law has had his Tiguan done as well.

Something which has struck me about the publicity over this issue is that it's all focussed on VW and not the sister makes of Audi, Seat or Skoda. Strange.

On the matter of the Up!, I didn't find any problem with the brakes, and you're right, for a 1.0-litre triple it is surprisingly good, and makes a nice noise when you rev it.

I had an UP on loan thought it was hateful , engine rough and noisy and not revvy like other. 3 pots I have Driven , early Dihatsu and more recently. Citroen C1 , brakes were ok.

VW's provisions for the diesel- cheating scandal have jumped to £19bn, after taking a £4bn charge in the fourth quarter..

That's going to hurt.
