Default How much would you pay for this project MR2!

Hey guys

After some advice on what you would offer for this MK2 MR2 it's been on my mind all day.

Summer project while the S is on the road!
Fancied owning and working on one of these for a while for a bit of fun.

- 1996 GT T-bar 2.0 3SGE 16v. N/A
- 92000 miles. Some paperwork etc.
- Colour White.
- T-bar panels are glass with inserts present.
- Leather interior in good condition.
- Standard Alloy wheels.
- Electric windows.
- Newly installed double din Sony head unit.

Viewed the car with the following Problems.

- Car is a non runner. Recent only stood for 2 weeks before last drive. Seller describes it as a fuel pump issue, car turns over freely but no bang! (I'm sceptical as whilst car was being cranked I could smell alot of fuel around the engine)

- Seller says car has gearbox issue changing to and from 3rd and 4th gear (grinding) (Gearbox oil change?)

-Roof leaking around seals.

- Broken wing mirror.

- Radiator in good condition some corrosion on bottom mounts.

- All under belly trims missing.

- Noticed air intake pipe disconnected after filter on intake manifold. Could be part of the cause of a no start?

- Small amount of rust on windscreen pillar under t-bar panel on passenger side.

Of course without being able to drive the car I have no idea what brakes, cooling or engine is like.

Good points.

- Car is from what I can see on main body, engine bay ('frunk' is that American?) Relatively rust free and straight.

- Interior is immaculate no damage to leather.

- Looks like it's been looked after at some point in its life.

- All manuals, tools, spare wheel, car cover, seat covers.

I am confident and have the gear to carry out the works myself, and will be treating it as a 'doer upper'.

Just for reference I offered £200 and was obviously turned down. But that was taking into consideration worst case, refurbed gearbox.
You have to Drop the fuel tank to renew pump in these which is alot of work.
Also allowed for servicing, tyres, general TLC.

Cars crying out to be saved!

So what's your thoughts on a sensible price with the view to sell on in full running order, hopefully making a quid?

Thanks
Winstan

I'd have offered about the same. That could very easily be completely uneconomical to repair. Probably worth more as spares but there's be a lot of work and inconvenience for not much money for a private seller.

Far too many unknowns to make it worth the risk for more than a couple of hundred.

If you want fun, find a turbo version.

Oil change might fix fix the gearbox problem, but it will only be a temporary fix. If it’s crunching then the synchros are worn. It usually second gear that has the problem on these cars. The engines are usually strong, but dropping the fuel tank is a big job.

3 balloons and a blow at the rag n bone mans trumpet is a fair value, not worth more than the sum of its parts when split for spares.
