Let me know if you decide to get rid. The V8 might enjoy have a more powerful sibling.

I will let you know Rich

I've been unhappy about a slight knock from the front suspension (ns) and research indicates it's shock absorber top bushes

As you can imagine, they take a bit of a bashing with all that weight

Anyway, I can't see any trace of front shock absorber replacement in the car's lifetime (it's on 92,500) so I'll replace them together with top and bottom bushes this weekend

old top mounts were comprehensively shot (rust is just cosmetic staining from washer above)

I bought new bottom bushes but the ones in place were good so left alone

quite an easy job of around an hour per side after a bit of improvisation to use the old gaiters with the new shocks

quite a transformation with new shocks and top mounts

serenity is restored

I have been reminded why these dont make the best commuter cars

I have been accustomed to £30pw of diesel in a little auto hatch returning circa 50mpg

Now that's gone I used the 66 for a 100 mile round trip yesterday - £40's of unleaded!

I could have done better but there is much sport to be had when reaching the start of a dual carriageway having been tailgated through the single lane stuff by some modern poxbox

And I have some new tunes to purchase courtesy of listening to R3 there and back

On the plus side, many parts are v reasonable. The recent front shocks were under £100 each and rear discs only about £30 each

Today I am on the train...

The E500 is not the greatest value commuting car. But I do arrive there in comfort and feeling great.

Now my ex-Sunday car

Sold easily enough

I shall miss the old girl but she was taking up too much space and would only have deteriorated living outside

Unlike a lot of my cars she didn't cost much to own (I never count fuel as part of the cost for hobby cars) and was pretty easy to work on as long as you didn't need to get underneath

My once mighty fleet diminishes still further and it will be nice when I can start buying again instead of selling
