My Elise does 0-60 in 4.8secs, has 150mph top whack, arguably the best chassis in the business, 220bhp/ton, and stands out in a crowd (for the right reasons), in other words, I have little to fear from Astra's and Focuses. I didn't start this thread to justify anything, only to highlight what I've felt for some time. I don't claim that my car is a "monster", only that it meets my requirements perfectly and I am very happy with it.
but these are not figures to see off the cars that you keep telling us are now at least the equivalent of an S2000

you tell us a Corsa will do 150

and any Imprevo will chase you to 60 and then keep pace

yet I remember your main driver being that you had to have a car that would seriously outpace these young pretenders

you patently haven't bought one

God help you if you run into an Astra VXR or a Cupra TDi

But I agree a Clio and a Corsa are a piece of shit, which makes the fact that one could keep up with an S2000 even more embarrassing!
The Clio is very much not shit. It's probably the best FWD car you can buy at the moment from a driving POV.
