Restoring cars

I've found over recent few years that I'm enjoying breathing new life into old stuff (e.g. the Omega watch I bought a few months ago and the Claud Butler 1960s frame I've resprayed and use as a fixed gear commuter bike) and I'm concerned that I may grow a beard and spend time at car boot sales!

However, when you read certain car restoration projects, such as Pete's 200SX (formerly Blurter's car?) and this Alfa project, does it make you want to fiddle with old (errr, not that the 200SX is an "old" car!) cars (and have a reliable modern car for when circumstances require)?

Looks lovely, I love the simplicity of it.

Wonder how much it cost total?

Andy, much of it can be priced up: http://www.alfaholics.com/racing_and_compe...arts/gta_parts/

There are also complete Alfas for sale on the website :)

That little red Alfa looks lovely.

Shame I wouldn't know where to start with a project like that!

Luckily the website has a page by page guide (provided you can weld, create wiring looms and other such skills :D).

I refer the honourable member for Dickens Heath to the answer I gave some moments ago!

A sign of getting old, but the question is do you have the patience, I just sold my classic mini after 2.5 yrs of slow restoration.....I am going to miss the little girl but not the work....although having a proper double sized garage with light and power and tools to hand might sway me again to restorations!

The Alfa looks gorgeous
Not really a full restore project more a modernisation project. Still very nice though.

I'd love to restore/modernise a mk1 Golf GTI one day.

My Dad is into restoration and has a couple of fairly rare examples which I have driven and could use if I wanted to, I don't particularly like them if I am being honest although my Brothers will use them occasionally.

I would rather spend my time rennovating a house than a car, for 2 reasons.

1) I prefer houses to cars (only just though)
2) I know I can rennovate houses, I'm not cut out for rennovating cars.

Jamie, I have had the same thought. Inspired in part by this:
