Default When time has clipped your sports car wings...

The years are taking the toll on a weak back and the need for something a tad more practical. Currently on crutches in the short term hopefully.

Low slung hard riding machines that can do 0 - 60 in under 7 secs. and 150mph are no longer of interest but the al fresco experience is essential.
Some space for hum drum domestic clobber and holiday bags would make life convenient now that I no longer have access to a company beater.
My budget is £20k max to include value of p/ex the Honda.
Petrol / Auto. /air / cruise required.

Short list is:
3 Series - probably last of soft top
A4 cab.
Volvo soft top/ folding hard.
Merc. cab.

1 Series & A3 cabs just out of reach.

Gut feeling tells me Series 3 2litre or 2.5 sixies due to huge choice & specs., some well looked after by ladies that lunch but some tarted up. Bit Chav image but cheque before pride me thinks.
Maybe main dealer to get easy p/ex.
Unhappy selling privately with all sorts of unknowns snooping round my place.

Some views appreciated but note I'm not interested in the high performance route, boring to many of you I know.

Ta in advance

Worth adding a VW Eos to the list?

Eos would get my vote. Especially with the 3.2 V6. It's a great sounding engine

Nice thing about the EOS is it has a sun-roof as well as the cab roof.

It's also a bespoke platform, somewhere between the Golf and Passat in size.

Not completely out of the question for my next car.

A little troublesome I believe so a good warranty probably required. Latest TSi 2L engines tend to dyno well over spec from what I understand.

No sports car but a reasonably practical cabriolet.

an Exige would be ideal

Seriously though, nothing really pops to mind. A friend of ours has a saab convertible but god knows whether it's any good.

A few E93 BMWs on Autotrader with 2-2.5 ltr engines.

Just a little bit over your £20k budget for 2-3 year old 25,000 milers.

It's predictable but it's a sensible choice.

Even if you get a 'slow' 2.0, it'll still a lovely smooth nice sounding engine to waft about with
