Winter tyres

No, bit icy and bloody cold though. I can't go anywhere at the moment because I'm waiting for a new battery to be delivered. One of those annoying situations where it will crank over but not fire (unless warm). You start looking for other probs but then check the voltage and you can see the problem. Cold seems to finish batteries off.

Yes - look for the 'Happy ending' symbol on them, you don't get that with a summer marked battery.

I gave up running my S2000 all year round, the daily duties handed over to my Golf.
I fitted Nokian WR D4's this winter thinking AWD without winters, in winter, is a bit daft if I get sent somewhere very cold with work. The difference between the tyres is easy to distinguish.
- Less slip during braking, it feels much more confident
- Far more grip on corners, allowing you to carry pace in a way you might on summers in 15-20degrees.
- Steering inputs are much more precise and the delay you get on summers in cold conditions is removed entirely
- Pulling away is a no-hassle affair, immediate and smooth.
- Ride quality is slightly better - no doubt on account of the more flexible side walls.
I've yet to use the tyres in snow, but they're getting used for negative temps regularly and the car is very easy to position whereas summers would sometimes feel vague.
Best part of all though - I have the grip to get out of the way of other vehicles/objects and to brake properly to avoid accidents.
I will be buying my wife a set for her BMW for next year's winter.

I have just had the original set of wheels refurbed and new tyres fitted (run flat NCTs on the front and run flat Hankooks on the back).
My verdict on winters (non run flat Contis) based on no serious ice and zero snow in the south east:
Complete waste of time and money

It's been a very mild winter so I think I'd agree
