Had a customer in work today complaining of a noise from the offside front wheel, got it in removed the wheel and this is what we see

Anyway, he said he can't afford any work until payday, drove away :surprised:

Some people really don't care :censored:

Wow, incredible. It almost makes you want to grass them in to the police as they drive off.

You let him drive away in that?

How can we stop him, its his car, as a garage we have no powers to do anything about it?

It's shocking that people are that cavalier about something that could be very dangerous.

Maybe you should make a note of the registration number, advise the police that the car has defective brakes, is very dangerous and leave it up to them?

I'm guessing the slide pin has worked loose because the pads have been worn down to the metal, then it's been hit by the wheel spoke?

Unfortunately if he has no money to pay for it, and no way of making that money without using the car he's basically playing a hail mary that he'll last. It's sad that people are in that position.

I know you can't stop them leaving. But don't you have an obligation to report it the the authorities? He is committing an offence using a car that isn't road worthy.

Yes slide pin come loose and bent by the wheel.

He hardly spoke English, probably didn't even have insurance, car was only worth £300-400.

No obligation that I know of? When I fail cars on MOT and the customer drives away I don't report them?

Rob, in future please simply add to this thread or start a new one (I'll glady subscribe to it). This stuff gives me a good chuckle, not to mention the odd nightmare! :feint:

It wouldn't be grassing on the owner, it would be doing your duty to every other road user and pedestrian out there. That defect is downright dangerous and puts other people's lives at risk.

If he can't afford to maintain his vehicle to the most basic of standards, then he shouldn't be driving, regardless of his inability to earn his pay if he can't drive.

I do believe (I could be wrong) that garages do have some power to not let an unsafe vehicle on the road.
