Any place to get the "UK" exhaust mod done?
i just had it done, i like it but i for sure want louder. It's hardly a huge difference in my opinion, im trying to get my hands on a Q300
I'm really just pointing out how permanent the so-called UK exhaust by-pass really is. Requires a welding shop or skills and equipment and there's no guarantee you'll like it or even be able to tolerate it .
Because it requires welding it's difficult to find the sound level you want/tolerate.
My routine disclaimer for anyone considering any change to their exhaust is to hear that exhaust from inside the car over a period of many minutes. Internet video sound levels get clipped by the mics and the speakers on our systems couldn't reproduce it anyway.
That comment is one of the unfortunate comments I read several times for months before I wasted several hundred dollars on the Invidia Q300 exhaust. As did a buddy. The noise and especially the drone in the 3000-4000 rpm range quickly proved unbearable. In the interest of full disclosure the exhaust was behind a Berk 63.5mm high flow cat. But, yeah, it was THAT loud. Everyone's noise tolerance is different. After about a month I had to get the Q300 off the car or risk the anger of my neighbors and my own hearing. I suspect many of the "it's not that loud" comments came from guys who didn't want to admit the exhaust on their was a mistake or can't afford the monetary loss involved in selling a use exhaust and are just living with it. It is no doubt acceptable to others. I can't imagine how loud the Invidia N1 exhaust might be, the Q300 measured in the vicinity of 105dBA on a noise meter. If your employer subjected you to this noise level you'd be required to wear hearing protection and have an annual hearing test.

no idea what kind of bat ears you have, but there is hardly a change in carbin noise and i went with 1.75in piping for the UK mod. Still going with the Q300 once i find one for a good price

The Q300 isnt even that loud,

Just pointing out the permanence of the UK mod. Unless you can weld it costs money to fit it, money to change, and money to get it off the car if you don't like it. I would consider this mod a major negative factor if I was buying the car. I = Me. We're all slightly different.
I strongly recommend never fitting the Q300 exhaust unless the driver and passenger wear hearing protection all the time. Or unless you're still in high school.
The K&N FIPK air induction system adds a bit of power and nice sound at WOT. I did this the first week (OEM parts in the attic.) Easy on, easy off, easy sell (or buy used). I'd fit one of these used long before cobbling the exhaust with welded bypass pipes.

The q300 reminds me of the Invidia N1 dual just without the bass and a lot of the fart/buzz on decel. Not many people notice this while driving because they're inside driving the car and it's relatively hard to hear that raspiness. The cabin noise is ridiculous too, I never realized how bad it was until being around others' s2000s and experiencing other exhausts. Having experienced both with and without test pipes, I don't recommend Invidia's either.
As Chuck already mentioned as well, remember the UK mod is not easily reversible. What had me intrigued with it awhile back was the fact that the decibels was very important to me, as I am heavy footed with an NFR ap2 and would rather not draw any more attention than I have to. And all the quiet(ish) exhaust systems I wanted were a pretty penny as well.
I stayed with a stock exhaust... for now

Edit: a lot of this is subjective... haha. I'm getting old.

literally just said i had the UK mod done, and i can barely tell a differnce in cabin noise. Feel like you 2 are over exhaggerating on the Q300
No exaggeration. The Q300 measured 104dBA behind a Berk high flow cat. The Tanabe Medalion Touring measures 94dBA on the same car. 10dBA is 10-times the sound intensity (as measured with instruments) and twice as loud (as perceived by the human ear). Two of locally fitted the Q300 and both of us removed them within a month. Drone was headache inducing. My buddy resorted to earplugs before the Medalion Touring sets arrived.
Hearing the exhaust you think you want before buying remains my strong recommendation.

I know, I literally read that... Just giving my personal input on the topic at hand for others' benefit as well...
I think this is actually a good thread to keep around for future Charlotteans searching for an exhaust shop willing to do the UK mod.
I'll have to agree that after owning a Q300 and expecting it to not be too loud, they're damn loud. Ran it with a test pipe, Berk HFC, and OEM cat and was never happy with the volume/tone combination.
I ran a muffler-delete OEM exhaust for a while (turn-down right after the resonator) and that was about comparable to the interior volume level of my Q300. That's saying something when you can literally remove your mufflers and be about the same volume level as a full exhaust. My muffler delete measured at 105 dB at 50 feet which is enough to catch a warning at some autox events, so if the Q300 measures at that same level then that's just too loud. I was told to resolve my exhaust volume issues before returning to the next local-level event; it was that bad.

i guess i should post where is was done if it's going to stick around, 8Eight Fab. They have a facebook and number is 704-914-8271 guys name is briggs. Really awesome guy, let me hang out while he worked, chatted and what not. Flexible hours to fit really anyones schedule. Highly recommended.

Dont know how comparable it was to my old car but i had catless DP, w/headers, Race N1 with a 44mm EWG on my subaru. Loved it, but i have no idea of the decibel rating. I've heard Q300s on other subarus and it was much quieter than mine.
