^LOL, recognized you as soon as I saw you man.
OK, so this is a fun one... Every year CCR hosts a 24 hour autox event. Yes, we do actually autox for 24 hours straight, through the night and into the next morning. You could honestly get 100+ autox runs in one event if you truly wanted to (and if your tires could handle it). The best part about this event is getting the chance to take ride-alongs in countless cars with other drivers, and the potential to convince someone to let you drive THEIR car out there on course. Come get a ride-along in a GTR (one is always there), a Lotus Elise (2-3 expected to show), some Z06 Corvettes, and maybe (if you're lucky) another S2000?!? LOL.
I've been to this event ever since they switched to holding it up in Winston Salem and it is a blast. Extremely laid back, its like a giant block party but everyone is autox'ing. I've autox'd at 4 AM and it is both hilarious and challenging. One year I left my house in CLT at midnight, got there around 1 AM, worked my 2 hr shift from 2-4 AM, and autox'd pretty much from 4 AM till noon, then drove back home. Its one of the craziest experiences I've had, LOL.
The event starts a noon on Saturday 8/31 and ends at noon on Sunday 9/1, and you've got Monday off work to recuperate! The event is divided into two 12 hour segments (Saturday/Sunday) and for each 12 hour segment that you want to race in, you must work a 2 hour shift. You can choose what shift you want to work in at registration, but it is first-come-first-serve. So get there early to get the best work shifts. Late night shifts are the easiest to work because there's less racing, but it can be boring. I like to work early while there's a lot of action on course, and then I can take all the runs I want late a night when there's not as many people running. The lot is semi-lighted and the course is usually easy to follow.
Come join CCR in this madness, you won't regret it!

It would be suuuuuch a great first event. Tons of seat time, relaxed pace, plenty of people to get ride alongs and instruction from. You could pretty much turn it into a novice school for yourself as long as you go around and ask for an instructor to ride along with you.
