Take US 64 West from Brevard to Highlands, NC. Lots of mountain road, twisties, upsie-downsies, no guardrails, waterfalls, scenic views. Good restaurants in Highlands, trip back in the dark is an all-out adventure. Good Luck...(and watch out for people on the wrong side of the road on turns)

Anyone know how to hack Google Maps?

Or, if Google Earth was used, you could "fly" over the drive before you went!
Ron, I am not sure what you mean by "hack", but the latest beta version of Google Earth allows capture and e-mail of the screen image. It also has a function to save locations, but I have yet to get it to work.

Isn't that a great pic of the Dragon? I've done that one myself.

I'm talking about google maps, the online version at maps.google.com.

They provide an API that allows other information to be overlayed on their maps. You've probably seen website that have integrated google maps. It would be cool to have a site for our routes searchable by area.

^^^ It certainly would be great to have that. In the meantime, I just use Google Earth with "roads" and "towns" turned on and everything else turned off to locate great drives. It is also entertaining to use the tilt feature and "fly" the routes.

In Northwestern SC, take hwy 178 out of Pickens or where Hwy 11 and 178 intersect. Go north on 178 to Rosman NC, 64W to 215N to the Parkway to 276 back down to Brevard and then back over Ceasars Head. Awesome ride. 215 is sweet; low speed and high speed areas.

Yes, a great drive

Even more fun by continuing on NC 215 at the Parkway, and then picking up US 276 just outside Waynesville, then up 276 to the Parkway

If you have to drive from Greensboro to Chapel Hill, get on Alamance Church road - some nice twisties and some fun driving, much more engaging than the interstate!
