The First Road Trip Across the US

I just finished a book on Horatio Jackson, the first person to drive across the US in a car (a convertible no less), that was very good. It may not sound like much but he did this in 1903!

Anyway, there is an article on CNN you all might find interesting and the documentary will be on PBS starting Monday.

A quick excerpt from the article:

"He sets off on the greatest journey of his life, takes along a 22-year-old mechanic, later buys a dog named Bud. All three wear goggles on this windshieldless, topless car, and make their way, grope their way across a country that has 2.3 million miles of road, but only 150 miles are paved, and all of those are in cities," he told CNN's Wolf Blitzer Monday. "So he's on cow paths, two tracks, railroad rideaways, and it is a hilarious scene."

I recommend watching if you can.

Cool! I'll have to watch it. Reminds me of driving the AlCan highway. 1,500 miles of unpaved road. Talk about groping!

Thumbs up for this guy. Maybe when I retire I'll attempt it with my S.
