Of those, I sure would hold out for a Civic personally. Since they are practically indestructable... A quick search of cars.com shows Civics of that vintage are out of her price range until they get upwards of 180k miles, tho...

Several Chevy Cavaliers and Olds Intrigues right around that price and within reasonable driving distance, tho.

Yeah, Civics will have too many miles for me, might look for a slightly oder Civic. I might be able to find a Protege in that range with good miles.

I bought a 97 civic hx for 2800 last year with 140000 miles on it. mine is not for sale but if he would like a civic I would expand the range through 96-00 EK years, they are great cars for DD and you can find them cheaper than the 00+.

I have a 97 civic I've owned since new, 155,000 mi, oil changed every 5k, never add oil between changes, and still gets 35 combined mpg, and will get 40 mpg cruising at 65 MPH.

I bought my son a 99, it has 200k, and uses 1-3 quarts between oil changes but is reliable and only paid $3000 for it, 2dr EX 5sp.

Expand your MY to 96-00 and you will have success.

PS, I will sell you mine for $3000, but it's mechanically much better than cosmetically, since both kids wrecked it, and the rear repair was high school shop, so trunk leaks a little (but so do all my hondas of that era) and I just pulled the front out myself and put a new hood on it. Green LX everything works, no hubcaps, good tires.
