Default Requests for work have gone dry

Hey guys. Not sure what the story is but I haven't gotten any requests to work on people's cars lately. For a couple years now it's been pretty regular and was booking people in virtually every free weekend I had plus evenings. This year, it's gone to crickets!

I don't know if I just haven't kept up with the times and people are connecting with other people around when they need work done. If they are going to another mechanic in the area at a shop or just going to their local mechanic because they don't know about me.

I just don't know. I know the car is now over 20 years old and I see them so rarely at this point it's almost like when I first got mine back in 1999 and had to go to a group event to see another S.

North Carolina isn't the HOT SPOT for S2000's and I know that but just kind of stumped as to what's going on.

Ok, just had to toss that out there. If anyone has any insight to this, please let me know here or if better to PM me please do.

Have a wonderful and Happy Holidays!

Cheers,
Pinky

Maybe its just seasonal. We still have large S2000 turnouts at C&C, shop meets, etc. here in Charlotte/Concord.

I think a periodic reminder of your services on the Carolinas thread is a good thing to do. Personally, I’ve had you in the back of my mind, but my car hasn’t had a major issue over my past two years of ownership. Been changing fluids myself. Keep at it and hope to meet you at a future Morrisville C&C! Thx for being a go to mechanic in the Triangle region!

I wasn’t aware of the list of things you offered since I’m a newer S2000 owner (I knew you installed tops). I wanted a local NC guy who knows these cars and BamaDave and Joephotographer both recommended you at a dragon event. There is a local “honda expert” repair shop here that I’ve used for pilots, prelude and civics but still can’t pull the trigger there other than they did my alignment. I have done a lot of my own maintenance but needed a valve adjustment and also got the ‘Pinky’s Once Over’ service. Car drives and sounds great and I recommend anyone in VA and Carolinas to look him up…

I agree with the others - mention something maybe every 6 months as a reminder. It’s not an easy thing to get the car out and pick it up if a couple hours away and that might be a reason - would be more convenient if I lived in the triangle rather than the triad

Just did a search and found your post for mechanic work done by an S2000 owner. I guess I’m not in the classifieds and don’t have that forum sending me notifications (now I do)
Might be not many of the newer owners know about you - I’ve met several S2000 owners who just bought their car the past couple years and they didn’t even know about S2Ki or our dragon trips.

Question is ............. Where do these new owners get their info from? Do they actually care or want a S2000 specialist? Do they know that this isn't just the run of the mill Honda Civic or Accord?

I will have to try and get out to the Cars & Coffee events and make sure I have cards to hand out to people on my person, on my car and even sticking them on other S's as I see them show up.

I just checked on pricing for tops and granted it was for the HOT ROD RED but it was significantly higher than I expected. The Black Tops are still running under $1,000 but I remember just a short few years ago they were something like $650. Wish I could have afforded to stock up on a couple dozen back then. OR at least have put the cloth version on my S so I could show off how nice the cloth version is.

Really I am hoping to pick up a '02+ soft top frame cheap along the way so that I can do a frame swap and then install the cloth onto that.

You should have a sign to leave on your car at events detailing that you work on S2000's showing a QR code sending them to a page if you have one that lists your services. Cards are good too that you can leave on S2000 as you see them - make sure everything also lists your S2ki screenname and link so they find this forum. For me, I understand that it's not the same as a Civic in a lot of areas so want to make sure whoever works on the car has the experience and knowledge and cares to make sure things are done the way they should be. People drive hours to see Billman or LHT so you know there are plenty of people wanting their S2000 worked on correctly.

For me when I started getting serious about S2000 a couple years before I was able to find mine, I found this forum and joined only to learn about the car and know what I was looking for. I don't know about all new owners but I believe the majority of them understand. Every time I meet an S2k owner I make sure they know about this forum, the Performance Car Syndicate FB group/events and also Classic Hondas on the Dragon. I need a card to hand out for just that lol.

I bought my cloth Robbins top in May 2021 and it was $749 direct from topsonline and free shipping so yeah they've been going up.

God, that sounds like a lot of work! LOL!!!

Haven't ever setup a website for this work as been word of mouth and mostly this forum, some involvement in other social media platforms like you mentioned.

It's really just a hobby, and more FUN than work. It's a passion of wanting to keep our cars looking good, safe, driving smoothly & interacting with the awesome community of S2K owners.

It was never intended to be a full time business or even part time, more of a FUN THING.

I guess I need to do a couple good ole - SPRING TIME - TECH DAYS. Where you work on your own car but I can advise and socialize. Help spread the word as well.

I’d certainly try to drive up from Southwest Wake County if you had a tech day and some S2k socializing. Love that idea.
