Searching in the SouthEast
I know you're looking for white on red, but this actually looks like a pretty decent deal for what looks like a clean car. It also seems that the dealer doesn't know the value of an OEM hardtops these days.

I have opened my search up to black car as well. Still not having any luck. There is one for sale in Atlanta but it is a color change from silver to cherry black, and looks like they did a crappy job with it. I know there is a mint black in the for sale section but it is extremely low miles and out of my price range.

It took me a year to find a gpw s2k. I finally settled on a 03 with tan interior. 140k miles with clean title at a reasonable price. Dealer only had it for a couple days, then I scooped it up. I am already in the process of changing out the interior.
I originally wanted a gpw with red interior but that is impossible to find for cheap.
I did find one in martinez, GA. Clean title, 2000 ap1 with red interior. Low mileage too with 40k miles. He was only asking for $12k, older gentleman that probably did not know what he had. It had been garaged its whole life and was in pretty good condition. Unfortunately it sold shortly after it was posted on craigslist. Now it is for sale on s2ki and hes asking for $20k for it just after a week it sold on craigslist. I won't mention any names but im pretty sure you can find it on the for sale section as of right now.
My advice is to check craigslist every morning before work/school, once during lunchtime, and before you go to bed haha. Check your area and nearby areas. Craigslist has a right column that shows nearby areas. Craigslist seems to be where the good deals usually pop up in occasion. Autotrader is always priced high, s2ki is self explanatory, so craigslist is your best bet. Good luck on your search

Good luck. I ended up in Little Rock AR (from Charlotte) to find the right one. Worth it though. The prices are going up and good ones are harder and harder to find. I PP sold my 01 for $9100 and it was in awesome condition and 170k miles so I know you can find one in excellent shape for your price point.
My advice is put a lot of value on a 1 owner car. They will loved it enough to drop ~$35,000 on it.

In all seriousness I would also use this tool: http://www.searchtempest.com/. It searches all craigslist ads within a certain radius. Gives you a lot to sift through, but you may stumble on a hidden gem in there.
This is how I found mine.
