Default Spun rod bearing AGAIN!

I spun a rod bearing for no apparent reason. 2001 F20 with 60M miles. A quality shop replace that rod plus all the bearings and rings. The owner drove it gently for about 400 miles to break it in. The first time he put his foot in it--about 6500-7000 rpm--it spun the same bearing again.

We don't know the cause of either problem. There was plenty of oil both times and he has checked the oil pump and oil passages and said all is clear. Any ideas??

time for a good breakdown! Oil banjo bolts updated? Did they use the correct bearing clearance color code on the rebuild? Is the oil pump really working 100%.

Keep us updated!

When you have a spun bearing, the engine really needs to be totally disassembled and cleaned. Even then the shop needs to make sure any removable plugs a taken out so particles can be washed out. On the L series of Datsun engines the plugs are not readily noticeable. They still needed to be removed so you could clean the oil galley for the main bearing oil supply. Which in turn supplied oil to the rods.

Just replacing the rod bearing and "running it out" is not really a good form of customer service. You had a catastrophic failure. Your repair was not treated as such. You can put all the bearings and pumps in there you can afford. Washing shrapnel through the new parts will only end in heartache.

Either get an AP2 engine or get ready for a major AP1 rebuild by a reputable Honda facility. (In Line Pro or 4 piston).

Good luck and look as far ahead as you can. You can be wrong longer than you can afford.
