VIR Labor Day Weekend with Potomac PCA - $405
This is a Friday - Sunday event at one of the best tracks in the country. FULL TRACK configuration. $405 for 3 days on the track is a steal. This is an event being held jointly by the Potomac region PCA club and an Audi club but is open to all marques.
I've run several track events with PCA regions and they're always a very friendly, generous and helpful bunch. Event info can be found at these links: https://www.pcapotomac.org/ https://www.motorsportreg.com/index....AC4E312FC51547 I've currently got a few buddies that are committing to this event with me. me - BRZ buddy #1 - 350Z buddy #2 - Legacy GT It would be great to get an S2000 presence out there! I also posted this info over on ft86club.com to try to get some Twins out there! |
VIR typically doesn't allow S2000s to run with factory (stock) rollover protection. Is this an exception?
|
Not that I'm aware of :(
|
I am registered however I didn't see any other s2k on there or the cars listed Wolfpacks2k
|
I'll be out of town
|
Dont have a rollbar :(

However, I actually pulled a switcharoo :p We're (me and 3 buddies) changing the date to go to VIR. We're gonna do a Track Daze event there Nov 11-12th. Full Course on day 1 and Grand Course on day 2. The timing works better for all of us. Sorry about making this thread and then backing out of this event. :eek1: |
I'm looking at the 11/11-12 event as well. Will probably sign up after the 9/7-8 event next month.
|
Not sure if any of you have run with Chin Motorsports or not. They have an event at VIR towards the end of October. I have run with them several times and you get way more track time with that group. There are only 3 run groups and they do a 1.5hr open session at the end of each day. Also, they limit the number of people to about 65. Ive been able to get about 400 track miles in a two day event. I have not come close with the other groups. I will probably be going to that as well.
|
thanks for the tip. any info or link, etc? :hello:
|
Chin looks expensive at first pass but if you get that much track time it's probably more cost effective. Their events seem to all be 549 (add 100 if you are a novice and need an instructor), plus a 50 membership fee.
|
Sorry. Cannot make that one. Rumor has it, PCA/Audi will run the Grand Course on Sunday (Full+Patriot). Is that the case? If so, this is a rare opportunity because VIR normally uses the Patriot Course for the Atom events while they rent out the Full Course.
Maybe I'll see some you at RA with Chin on 9/28-29. |
It is a little more expensive but its the most track time that I have had with any group. Most other groups you get about 4 or maybe 5 25min sessions. Even though the PCA is a 3 day event for $405 I am pretty sure I wont get as much track time. I signed up and they put me on a wait list anyway so I might not be going. I think I am being waitlisted partly because I don't have a Porsche. There are mostly non-porsches on the wait list.
The link for chin is: http://www.chinmotorsports.com/ The October event is right after the enduro race. Its a lot of fun to get there the day before and watch some of the enduro. I will definitely be at that one if I don't go to PCA. |
Wow, you serious? Those jackasses don't even have an entry list posted. I emailed the chair some questions over a month ago and never heard back. :banghead:
What's the difference between the Patriot course and Grand course? |
Full = entire outer track (3.27miles)
Patriot = inner track (1.1miles) Grand = Full + Patriot (4.1miles) Google images for VIR Grand Course |
The PCA Potomac crew is first class. I went to Watkins Glen with them in June. They built in a track walk at the end of the first day which is very helpful. They also provided "refreshments" at the end of each day when the track goes cold.

Is anyone going to VIR with TrackDaze in 2 weeks?

What's the difference between the Patriot course and Grand course? It took a while but I convinced them to let me in. Hopefully with no instructor since I have not needed one for a while. The list is only available to be seen by people that signed up through motorsportreg.com. As far as email's: I had the same problem. Long time between replies. |
Well it wasn't a terrible weekend at VIR. I will not attend another PCA event. Only 3 27min sessions/day. Spend most of the day sitting around. Got to meet another S2000 owner, Victor, with a really clean yellow s2k. Also met another S2k owner who was there with his Boss mustang but can't remember his name. Outside of having limited track time it was a fun weekend.
Hoping to go back for the chin event in October. 3.5hrs track time/day!! |
Was there a large attendance?

It was not a large turnout. I have never been to this event but people that have been before say it is usually very crowded. |
The lack of track time is frustrating/troubling especially if you say there wasn't a large turnout. Was it poorly managed?

Hoping to go back for the chin event in October. 3.5hrs track time/day!! Pete, that was me! Seeing how fast your car was in the corners pushed me over the edge and I will be selling the Boss and tracking the S2K. There are other reasons (cost being a big one) but you definitely showed me how fast a relatively lightly modded S could be. I will miss having a 444hp V8, but I'll deal with it. I won't miss the monthly payment, or replacing the rubber. I'll be at VIR for NASA's Oktoberfast on Oct 12-13th, and I might try to make it to the Sunday Chin session. I think the part I disliked most about the PCA event was three sessions each day for three days. I'd much rather do 4 events over two days like the last event I went to (trackdaze.) Sure you get one more session with PCA, but I had to take a day off work for that. Plus they wouldn't let the S2K guys drive with the tops down. It was a beautiful weekend, so that's really lame. If NASA has the same rules, I'll put the hardtop on the car before I drive out. |
Track rules at VIR (not organizer) dictate that convertibles running top down had to use arm restraints. I borrowed some and they annoyed me so much that I'll run my hardtop at track events from here on out.
|
We were just at VIR in June for a TrackDaze event and they did not require arm restraints for the top to be down on the S2000.
|
That's odd. One of the VIR staffers pointed it out to the chief steward while I was in earshot that all convertibles required them, even if running top up. Per the organizer tech sheet, they were only specifically required if you planned to run top down. Maybe this guy wasn't at your event, or TD carries different/more insurance? No clue.
|
To make things even more confusing, I emailed NASA about the top up/down for the Oktoberfast event, and I was told I had to run with the top down.
|
I wonder how much of it comes down to personal preferences of the event organizers. I'm thoroughly confused at the lack of consistency.
|
Hmmm, that's interesting. Are you guys running aftermarket rollbars? I was 100% certain that VIR wouldn't let the S2000 run any other way.

Every PCA event I've ever been to has run 4 sessions per day, all 20 min with the occasional 30 min tossed in there time permitting. Then again I've never run with PCA Potomac. |

Got the corners sorted out with the Malibu and I'd take 105 up the climbing esses with 90 through south bend over 140 down the back strait in something with a big engine any day. Just love that feeling of pegging a corner as good as you possibly can and seeing how much more speed you can carry through the next section. Hope to see some of you at November Trackdaze. Grand West course is awesome, ran it last November. |
I'll definitely be there.
|
The top up rule was only a PCA rule. I have driven at VIR several times with the top down. This was the first time that it was required to have the top up. Anyone going to the Chin event Oct 27th and 28th?
