Default CLOSE- FOUND AP1 headlight

Looking for the whole assembly(no bulbs or ballast needed) or just one with a good lens on it(or that can be polished up). The restoration on my '00 didn't go as planned and is being scrapped.

Let me know if you have something that would fit the bill.

Thanks.

Here is a tip for anyone considering polishing their lenses.

I supplied process equipment to North American Lighting, a Koito company, for several years, and was a product specialist in automotive lighting. (The S2000 has Koito headlights.)

Headlights are made of two materials. The main structure of the lens is injection molded polycarbonate. Polycarbonate can withstand a lot of impact but is very sensitive to UV and scratches very easily. The second material is acrylic with UV inhibitors added. Acrylic is brittle and shatters on impact, but it fairly scratch-resistant.

Over time, the acrylic gets covered in micro-chips (not the transistor variety) and becomes hazy.

If you remove the acrylic, you must replace it. If you don’t, you will leave the polycarbonate exposed to scratches and UV attack. While scratched can possibly be buffed out, the UV will yellow the Polycarbonate All the way through, and this cannot be fixed.

Great info Will.

My lenses had heat cracking across the top of it due to my putting window tint on it and heat built up. I never liked the "eyelids" and so wanted to try and polish them out. They went all the way through it seems and after sanding I sprayed clear coat on it. Well even though the surface was scuffed, and free of oils/grease etc. the clear didn't take in certain areas. I attempted to fix/re-do but nothing worked to remedy and the same issue showed up in different areas during subsequent sprays.

Clear coats have a UV protectant in them maybe not as good as what is applied by the factory. Though my car doesn't spend a lot of time in direct sunlight.
