We can see the plumes of smoke, particularly from the Duarte fire. The air is filled with smoke. Ugh!:yikes:

Sadly prolly have many more before the Summer's over :(

stay safe :monkey: seems clearer here this AM but I know it takes them a lot of man hours & planes to get them contained.

The Raptor 06-21-2016 08:04 AM

Now the air is really awful, both in Pasadena and the Crescenta Valley.http://www.world-of-smilies.com/wos_...kodamagnam.gif

RB :shout: that Sand fire affecting you two?? :nails:

looking scary on the news :(

just sat on the edge of the runway ( well just outside the edge on the road ) at SB Airport where the FIRE Retardant planes fly in & out of ….. they were one after another  got a vid of one over my head :yikes:

The Raptor 07-26-2016 01:45 AM

The sky in the Crescenta Valley and Pasadena was really awful through Saturday, then the wind shifted and we were back to blue sky. According to my friend Dallas Raines of ABC Channel Seven News (Dallas and I go back almost 35 years) on the news last night, the wind is going to shift again and we're going to get the smoky air back today.

We used top shop at Jensen's in Blue Jay all the time. We had friends who had a place in Blue Jay. They had a lot of money and traveled a lot. We would babysit their two teacup poodles, Rocco and Baby, and take them up to their place in Blue Jay. That inspired us to get our first poodle, Lulu, who was born in their place in Blue Jay. Unfortunately, Lulu died at age two. Then we got Milo and PJ, started going to Big Bear, and you know the rest.:dance2:

I hope we're going to be OK in Big Bear this weekend. I think we'll be far enough away and the prevailing winds are to the south and southwest out of the Mountains. When we were in Big Bear last month, one of the days was free because we got credit because we left a day early last August because of the Summit Fire right above us in Upper Moonridge. The ashes were literally falling down on us. On my way out, as I was gassing up Big Red at the Shell Station on Big Bear Boulevard, I was at a pump next to a fire engine also gassing up. The driver of the fire engine said "Wanna trade?" I replied "Oh, yeah, then my bank would say "You did what?" We all laughed -- good guys.

vtecmom 08-17-2016 07:13 AM

RB I think you should change your destination just the thought of being up there and even GETTING there with all the road closures https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/public/st...t/banghead.gif

Wack's In-Laws had to evacuate from Wrightwood but he said the venue that his wedding was held is still there so far. I hope it doesn't head that direction!

WestSideBilly 08-17-2016 08:38 AM

Pretty hazy this morning. Not sure how much of it is the marine layer vs smoke from the fire, but I can't see shit out of the office looking north.

Well I'm not sure if your usual route is the 210 to the 18 up butt if so your gonna wanna consider passing 18 & taking either the 330 or 38 …. we had to go back to exchange something in Rancho today and the LINE of cars needing to take 18 since since 15 is closed was still  lonnnnnnng https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/public/st...efault/eek.gif

Drove from Rialto area out to where the 15 closure is and shot a few more :photo: 's of the SCARY SMOKE & FIRE

Its real bad still no containment at all yet https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/public/st...ault/frown.gif

WE take the 330 from the 210 at Highland to the 18 at Running Springs to Big Bear and the 38 back down to Redlands.

The Raptor 08-17-2016 03:09 PM

I just spoke with the CHP in San Bernardino. The 18 is the route people are taking with the 15 closed. There is a lot more traffic on the 18 between Running Springs and Big Bear. They've been getting calls about it all day long. We can go up the 38 from Redlands like you guys do, Mom. The 18 wraps around the north shore of the lake from east of the Convention Center to the dam, but traffic in town still could still be heavy. Also, I'm worried about the air quality. The Big Bear fire chief posted today on the FD website that you can see the smoke from the Blue Cut Fire from Big Bear. The fire has burned 30,000 acres, is growing fast, and is 0% contained. We'll have to decide by Friday night, but right now it's looking pretty iffy.

We can see smoke from La Crescenta and that's probably close to 50 miles as the crow flies. We're putting off our Big Bear trip for a week.

I'm in the tallest building for at least 50 miles in any direction except directly to the west (downtown Long Beach)... so yeah, decent view.

Not much to see most days, though.

Which building?:ponder: The taller building to the west is the World Trade Center?

WestSideBilly 08-19-2016 09:55 AM

I'm in Orange County, George. There's nothing tall around me, so my 8 story office building affords an expansive view. Downtown LGB is to the west and the condos on the waterfront are taller; downtown LA is about 50 miles NNW of me and obviously there are numerous taller buildings there, and there's a few buildings in Irvine that are taller. But if I'm looking north, east, or south, I have a nearly unobstructed view for as far as you can see. So when it's clear, I get a nice view of the mountains.

It hasn't been clear lately. :suspect:
