Never heard of having it over boiled potato's but makes sense. We always had them with egg noodles.

I like a good cannoli, I don't like a lot of Italian desserts though. Mortadella is good stuff but I ate it so much growing up I don't eat it much now, and it needs to be paper thin and very fresh .

Yeah I bet we had similar childhood Italian Deserts Joe my Mom RIP always made Biscotti but they were not like what you see at Starbucks etc.... we would roll the ropes out then cut them in 2-3 pieces at an angle. She didn't dip them in chocolate or anything just had the almond flavoring in them.

I do like Mortadella and buy it sometimes also sliced thin, I had gotten some cold cuts a few years back for the momBBQ gang that were here an extra day for them to make sammmiches @ lunch, @RT asked me " whats mortadella? " # he's Chinese

Gina, I think your childhood was pretty close to mine, my mother made desserts but most of them were not very good. Her biscotti were not very good, they were designed to last weeks and not go bad, that was about it, pretty dry and not much flavour. lol

My Mom, God Bless, made the little individual cheesecakes and around Easter time she made 'THE' Pastiera.
