Never give a sucker an even break
This is the last of the WC Fields films where he had some sort of control, writing and acting,etc....1941
In this film Fields gets his wish to have a pretty talented young woman adore him: his niece played by a very talented singer of the era.
He plays THE GREAT MAN, that's his character's name. He plays a talented comedian who trys to sell his story to the studio, then has some fantastical adventures. I prefer the Bank Dick as his best film
Fields is more of a humorists than a comedian, he includes some slapstick, plenty of situational stuff and a few good belly laughs...usually at his characters expense. Skip this and see The Bank Dick, imho his best film and a great intro to his work...he was if nothing else a true character.. Godfry Daniels.
