Dragon Events Tail of the Dragon (Highway US129) 318 curves in 11 miles, is America’s number one motorcycle and sports car road.

How about an S2000 Dragon run in the SUMMER.

You can always petition this in your local forum as well as neighboring communities.

Lots of people make smaller group runs randomly throughout the year.

how about a small event During the week? Not as many people would be attend but it would fun! Not much traffic during the week.
Good luck. It's hard enough for most people to get away for a 3 day weekend. If you're close, the best thing to do is make the trip yourself or with a small group. You won't get 10 cars in July during the middle of the week, much less 100+.

As mentioned, the primary reason we do spring and fall runs is slightly more favorable traffic. I've been there in July a couple times and it is a zoo. The last mid summer run I did (I think it was the last weekend in June), even with a torrential rain on Thursday and Friday, it was nuts on Saturday. No clean runs through. It's not worth it. And, it can be ungodly hot there in July. There are also a slew of more localized events (plus SESM) during the summer.

DragonBall, which is usually the 2nd or 3rd weekend in September, almost always has good weather - Sunny and not too hot.

Just to clarify, I'm not discouraging anyone from putting together an event during the summer. I can offer suggestions for hotels, dining, and things to do (other than drive) if you're interested (as can many of the other veterans).

My next door neighbor (he has an elise) and I are 99% committed to being at the dragon July 25th - 28th. We are officially an organized event "of two." ... anyone who can take off during the week is welcome to joint us..

Thanks for the SESM reference.

I can personally speak to how much work goes into these events and it is extreme. I truly like the mixture of WTD, SESM, and DBR.

Weekends in the summer on the dragon are a parking lot. You have a window from about 8:30am-9:30am and after that it is horrible.
x2

summer time is nuts on the dragon

i usually ran during the week wensday, thursday and friday. Minimal cars. Though i would definilty agree that the weekend is busy.
Just for consideration (in case folks too easily misinterpret the above post to suggest that weekdays on The Dragon are a cakewalk...)...

Now granted...that photo is perhaps about as bad as one could imagine (unless your S2000 were in between those two oncoming rigs ). But the fact is, during the weekdays, The Dragon is more likely visited by these bohemoths. And a "clean" run (aka fast!)...doesn't mix well with one of these guys lumbering around a next corner...in either direction.

Simply posted as a word of caution. Take it for what its worth...

thanks for the info... noted...
my friend with the lotus does not have any highspeed driving experience/training, so we will be keeping things pretty sedate... unless he lets me drive his car that is....no problem though, the elise is low enough to go under those trucks without having to duck you head.
