Wink Special Announcement - DBRX to be FINAL DBR Event

Hello folks!

I wanted to let you know that DBRX (the 10th Annual DragonBall Run event) will be the FINAL Fall Honda S2000 event. The DBR series will come to an end after our DBRX event.

WTD (Wake the Dragon), our annual Spring event WILL continue.

WHY? Since the beginning (10 years ago), DBR has never topped 100 S2000s...and there's nothing wrong with that because an event with MORE cars isn't necessarily a "better" event...but the issue is that 6 months later, WTD comes along and that event ALWAYS tops 100+ S2000s. WTD has become, since it's inception (2003), the largest Dragon gathering of Honda S2000s. With this, much more planning and work goes into WTD. Coordinating 2 annual events is not an easy task. I feel that retiring DBR on it's 10th anniversary is the right thing to do.

September is a tough month for many...it's the close of the "season" for many...and it competes with other events like S2K Days and Fall themed events, track events and the like.

April works well for WTD as it's earlier in the year and sort of kicks off the year of Honda S2000 fun for so many folks. I think this is why we see so many more S2000s attend the April (Spring) event.

So now what? I wanted to wait and announce this at the dinner banquet of DBRX but then realized folks may want to know that this is the final event before attending...say for example someone who is thinking about attending but figures they can just come next year... I want everyone to know so they can plan accordingly.

Please don't take this as "bad news." I think it's fantastic that we've enjoyed 10 YEARS of DragonBall Run and I don't see where this will stop any of us from enjoying the Dragon! I imagine regional communities will set up their own gatherings if they'd like...similar to the McDragon (a "non-event" that Sheila and Ron coordinate).

The name of DragonBall Run goes into retirement after DBRX and will no longer be used.

We celebrate what this will do for WTD (Wake the Dragon) as I'll now have close to a full year to plan every Spring event. I'm excited about it and look forward to celebrating our 10th annual WTD (WTDX) in 2012!

Our next gathering will be WTD9 2011 which will likely be either the 3rd or 4th weekend of April. Final dates to be announced during DBRX.

Many thanks,

-airgate (Raul)

Maybe if this had been not scheduled on top of Homecoming the car count would have been higher

It does not appear Homecoming will be competing for attendance next year, but BC could change his mind I suppose.

DBR has been running 10 years now and always around the 2nd or 3rd weekend of September. While the Homecoming II date may have impacted a few attendees, it is NOT the reason for canceling DBR as a whole.
