Of course, if we can find a sponsor to effectively subsidise the sale of the dvds, I would underwrite their production and duplication and that way everyone attending will get a copy.

Anyone know where we might find a benefactor like that? I'm sure we're not above a bit of product placement

Speak to Kiwi, he is looking after this side of things.

We have talked about a sponsorship deal to subsidise merchandise such as t-shirts etc but at this minute we haven't finalised anything.

It's all going to come down to which activity is going to net us the largest margin to give to a charity.

DVDs for a tenner seem perfectly well priced to me and as such would probably make more than say t-shirts or baseball caps. It's this kind of thing that we'll need to take into consideration when deciding which things to subsidise.

Very good point.

I'm pretty positive that there will be a 'cainers' group who will be giving it some serious pedal to the metal action, observing the law of course
A sensible approach to pace is what I'm looking at.
Limit + 10%

Having given Le Plod's coffers regular hefty donations over the years... I'm a little reluctant to do so again. ( Le Plod has powers to confiscate your motor and hold onto your licence. )

With around 700 miles of this drive in France - and given that a group of S2K's gunning it isn't inconspicious.....

Oh and the Payage can track your speed and grass you to Plod also.

And the Swiss police are worse if they catch you....

I wouldn't be doing 700 miles in France.

My preference would be go go through North East France en route to Germany then down through Austria.

French plod will only take your car if you are caught a 50kmph+ over the limit, plus they'll only take it if there is no other driver with you to continue the journey. You are right though, it pays to prudent and vigilant.

All good points.

Just FTR, I plan to go down a day early, and I will be caning it down. I'll be doing it in 2 legs... Weds: Chunnel, drive to Stuttgart, then Thurs: drive to Trentino.

Ian, we need to have a chat to book ferries/chunnel/hotels etc.

That loon Bernie mentioned that he might tag along too, but I haven't heard anything from him since.

Hmm.. My company has a warehouse near Saarbrucken, I know a couple of really cheap ( and really basic ) hotels.

Chaps - any chance of a list of the proposed routes?

I'd be doing something like this http://route.rac.co.uk/routeplanner.cgi?js...ype=interactive

And for the second leg I'd be going down through Germany, missing Switzerland, through Austria and into Italy. At some point I'd want to pick up the E45 motorway which goes via the brenner pass.

Just had a quick look at a few options using some of the popular internet based route planners.

Calais - Levico Terme via Munich seems to do the trick. Nice and direct, via the E45 so no issues with snow getting through the mountains, but most importantly missing out Switzerland.
