Default Bringing S2000 to the Netherlands

I'm currently living in the Netherlands and I'm having a lot of trouble selling my s2000 in the US. So I figure I might as well bring it over if no one there wants it anyway.

I've heard since I've owned the car for more than 2 years now I won't have to pay tax on it, as long as I don't sell it in less than 6 months.

What would I need to change? Would it need headlight washers? I'm sure a fog lamp would be necessary, and perhaps some extra reflectors on the bumper.

If you know anywhere I can find more info on this please forward me a link.

Thank you

Depending on the differences:

Rear fog.
Reflectors etc, those should be the same.
Headlight washers are not a problem until the 06 model I think, but I'm not sure on this (somebody else might chime in).

a link: http://www.rdw.nl -> might be dutch only.

You might need an expensive import-check of the car though, as it's not from the european union. I imported mine from Germany and they did only a very minor check.

Twonius,

You should have brought the car with you when you originally moved to the Netherlands!! You need to check out if you're still elegible for a tax break (and if you are you have to have owned it for at least 6 months and may not sell for one full year). Do this at a local "douane" office. You may want to visit a RDW station (for car imports) near you which has the "douane" office incorporated and ask the questions!

Once you are elegible, import is relatively easy. Basically just need a rear fog lamp(with a separate switch and a warning lamp visible to the driver). The front parking lights may not be orange, they must be white. If the car was first registered in July 2006 you will most likely need to install headlamp washers and levelling device, since the headlamp are Xenon hids.

Take care and good luck!

Thanks Siepel,

I just moved here 2 weeks ago. I've heard I have a few months to arrange getting the car here.

Any idea what these changes would cost?

Also I see you live in Livonia, grew up in Okemos.

Can't help you with a cost estimate, sorry!

Make sure to talk to customs (douane) before you ship!

Good luck,

Hi,

You can contact those people
http://www.dasimport.nl/

They are import specialists, take care of everything from A to Z and pretty reasonably priced. PM me if you want their mobile number. (They imported my S from Germany)

Good luck

Hi,

I am also in the process of importing my 2005 S2000 from the US into Holland. I have been quoted 800 Euros by Honda on Van der Madeweg 21, 1115 Ouder-Amstel. I believe that is mostly the front light cluster - the parking lights need to be white. Not sure if that means replacing the entire cluster - if it does I'll be selling the old ones. The rest of the mods have been mentioned. I did bring mine in free of taxes and duty (it's packed in with my other stuff in a 40' container). It arrives in a few days in Rotterdam all the way from Arizona - let's find out if there's a heater in the car!

Bogman,

As "moving goods" (verhuisgoed) Xenon headlamps DO NOT need automatic levelling or washing systems. You'll need white front position lamps (stadslicht) which are probably orange now and you'll need a rear foglamp with switch for driver and a visible tell-tale (verklikkerlicht) somewhere in the car.

The 800 Euro's is for two headlamps (including fitting) and rear foglamp? That's relatively cheap IF it includes labor...

Who did you use for shipping? Might come back from Detroit in the not too distant future... Also with (another) S2K...

Take care,

Siepel

PS: I noticed you have a 2005. Can't you simply replace the amber front parking lamp bulbs with white bulbs? I thought only pre-2004 has the amber lens in front of the parking lamps (stadslichten)?

Hi Siepel,

Evidently the Honda dealership that quoted me estimated the 800 based on another S2000 they modified recently. I was thinking the same about the bulbs - but I won't really know until I bring it down to them. It's all rather mysterious - they say the work should only be 2.5 hours but they will need to keep it for a week as they have to order parts. Would l;ike to know if the person who imported the other S2000 is on the forum?

I'll get the name of the shipping company for you - can't recall off the top of my head. I was relocated, so didn't actually get to choose my shipper. We did have fun and games prioritizing what would stay and what would go in order to fit the car in - but well worth it. I almost passed out when I saw the cost of them new here in The Netherlands.

Thanks for the advice - will keep you posted. Insurance is the next challenge - having a 2.2. might pose additional premiums.

Regards, Kevin

Still hoping from someone who brought an S2000 into The Netherlands from the US. Mine eventually arrived and is in for modifications to the lights. Haven't received the quote yet but still not sure if they may quote for replacing the whole light cluster (hopefully not) in addition to the normal fog light.

On a related note - I am waiting for an insurance quote from Disupro - they say I need to have an alarm fitted. Any suggestions? Thanks
