Default Who do you insure with?

Who does everyone insure with in The Netherlands - waiting for a quote from Disupro. Never had insurance here before - so not sure what to expect. Clean record and definitely over 25. Advice appreciated.

Cheers, Kevin

Well I guess I'll have to answer my own posting. Either insurance information is a such a closely guarded secret in The Netherlands that you could tell me but then have to kill me, or no one has any insurance! Disupro now have my comprehensive policy for

Did you have any 'background' as to show you have had no prior accidents or claims? If you've got that, you'd usually be a able to get a pretty decent discount on your rate...

That said, insurance companies traditionally are the biggest thieves

Originally I was quoted just over 1,800 euros, but by assuring that annual mileage was less than 25,000 (isn't there kilometreage?) and 5 years claims free history that fell to just over 1,200, which I think is pretty good. In the US my insurance was about $1,300 for the same coverage. Not sure how good the service is yet - hopefully will never have to find out!

Well in general you will get a worse customer service in Europe than the one you might be used to in the states. Some countries are even worse, I don't know about Holland but Germany is specially known for its (lack of) customer oriented service (things are changing slowly in the last years thought..)

If we consider the insurance coverage.. I was not used to pay premium quotes for basic services (at least what I consider as basic). For example to get a "normal" price in a country like germany you have to cut out things like physical branches (all cheapo things only attend you by phone or email), road assistance, free milleage, free selection of mechanic.. etc etc.. additionally there are also some absurd semi-laws that will void your insurance (or cause problems) in many cases.. (that's the price of living in a burocratic country.. might be better in Holland thought)

So in general what was for me "basic coverage" in the past, now it's "premium service".. and what was premium is sometimes now not even offered (or only offered by third parties)

In the end, your satisfaction depends on what you are used to..
