Default GATEWAY!

i took the s2k to gateway today to do the roadcourse. I got some instruction and pointers from someone from the redline time attack guys. The car handled so awesome until it started raining. But i was very happy with the s2k i was keeping up with a modded rsx-s it had slicks, stripped interior, coilovers, header, cams, stoptech brakes and experienced driver i was all over his ass he wouldnt let me by but over all it was a lot of fun

Lol, thanks man. I hope we see you out there soon. For anyone that wanted to know, FormulaRedline represented the STL with the win in the rear wheel drive street tire class, followed by the GTmotoring S2000, then me.

Dave was fast all day Sat in practice with a best of the day time of 1:14.2, followed by myself with a 1:15.1. The course dried out quite nicely after session #1 and we were lucky to have a mostly dry track surface for the day.

Sunday in practice, I had a dramatic spin in turn 1 which proved to be pretty difficult to overcome and get back on the pace. Dave was smooth and steady through out the practice sessions and did not give up his charge til the end, evident by his best time of both days of a 1:14.1 - on his very last lap of the Time Attack!

We really did miss seeing anyone from the Gateway club for this one. Irev9k, dewar, and ShawnS2k - maybe we'll see you next year.

Yes that was the last time attack session. I was definatley off the pace after the morning, and I just got slower through out the day unfortunately. Even if I had been running consistant low 1:15's like I was on Saturday, an EVO should still be able to catch my 5 second head start near the end of the 3 laps at GIR - if it is properly driven.

It was a nasty spin in the worst place to have one at GIR. I don't know how I saved the car and myself from meeting the walls or if I even had anything to do with the outcome, but I can tell you that losing control at 100mph happens really fast. I missed 4th twice and by the time I had grabbed it, my entry was ####ed but I went for it anyway. I'll get some youtube going soon so you can watch the onboard.

The car really didn't have much more time left in it after Saturday, mabe a 1:14.9 if I got the throttle on a little earlier out of the banking, but I was pushing really hard all day on Saturday, out of my comfort zone on almost every lap. If I am there next year, I am definately showing up with better tires at the least and hopefuly some suspension and maybe a wing.

Check out SlipAngle79's recent post on things to consider for your car at the track...

The tires were Hankook RS-2's, 205/55 16 front and 245/50 16 in the rear. I wouldn't put these tires on my car again if someone gave them to me. I was lured in by the cheap price and what looked like a good tread design. You get what you pay for with track parts, I would recomend the RE01R from Bridgestone and I'm sure Dave can attest to that since he won our class on them.

As far as brakes go, Ron is right you might want to read my previous thread on preping the car, but I can tell you now that you are going to need a DEDICATED track pad on the front if you plan on getting consistant fade-free performance from the brakes. You will be amazed at what a simple pad change does to the braking performance of this car - it feels like full race brakes, ABS kicks in immidiately if you push the pedal hard enough.

I use the HAWK HT-10's on the fronts and ther compromise pad the HP Plus on the rear because I dont have any money . That setup costs around $200, but you will get at least 3 full days of track time from them. Dont forget the racing brake fluid as well - I use Ate Super Blue - about $15 for a liter.

You should have stopped by, I would have been happy to take you out during practice. Maybe I'll come down for the PDX - just let me know when you are going.
