When does the VTEC kick in?
Hi!
Still have not really tested the new (used) car due to weather. I recall on the MY03 that the VTEC would throw you back in the seat around 5500 rpm at WOT. This MY02 starts at 6250 or 6500 rpm. What gives
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Ron

The My03's redline at 8K and the MY02's at 9K right? I'm not quite sure. If so, then it makes sense to me that you would kick into VTEC at around 6.2-6.5K. In MY01, I VTEV at close to 6.3K (when it is colder outside) so your observation would be correct. Hitting VTEC is also based on weather conditions. In the summer when it's hot, I VTEC at around 5.6-5.8K. You could also have a map sensor issue. Believe it or not, check your oil level or for any oil leaks

Have now read these. Seems everything is normal. Maybe the previous CAI/exhaust accentuated the "kick" from VTEC?
03 still has 9k redline. The vtec should be the same in 00-03. You might be used to hearing that violent change into vtec caused by the CAI. If you have the stock airbox the transition should be quieter.
