Motorolla Walkie Talkies

Dave,

What kind of deal can you get me on a good Motorolla walkie talkie with headset?

Thanks,

Costco carries the new 6400 for $99. Thats pretty damn cheap.

Keith,

S2k Dude got one for me at $35 not including charger and headset. Charger was $30 and headset was $9.

Dewain, that was the last of those so everyone will just have to find the cheapest price they can either locally or on the web. Sorry guys.

I had a 6400. Took it back because it wasn't any better (or as good) as my bottom of the line Cobra ($35/pair but w/o sideband support.) I don't think there is much difference in FRS radios.

The cobras have a shorter range as well as not being able to participate on the S2000 event drives... we all use the code channels to keep riffraff out... a few folks here had them and took them back.

SilverStreak,

You are right, I had a set of Cobras and I gave mine away because they didn't support the subchannels on the drives. They will let you listen, however you won't be able to talk back to the rest of the group.

After a few drives with people getting seperated I'm looking at some type of walkie talkie members can get to help the situation. Sounds like you guys have some experience with this type of setup, so any input you might have would be great!

Feature for feature and clarity plus field testing, the Motorola 6000 Series have tested the best. Our guys have tried all sorts of brands. It's just about mandatory on our long runs to have channel/code radios. Keeps the locals off our bands because we use channel+code. I have a pair of 6300s.

lane, if you have any specific questions post them here and we'll be glad to answer them. So far the 6300 series has worked well on our drives. The T6400's are supposed to be as good on most features plus the allow addtional range, 5 mile instead of 2 mile.
